Palace Of Winds (King Harvines Palace)

The Palace Of Winds

Primary Goals:

Items of Special Interest:

1 - There are 2 types of Wind torches, but they all require the same thing to happen to them, namely, they must be hit by the power of Fire to ignite. Once all 12 have been ignited, the sound of a key unlocking a chest can be heard and all the treasure chests in the palace will be accessible. It should be noted that water magic can put out the torches, although you will probably not have anything with that power. Fire magic (Fireball, etc.) can ignite them, as well as the Long Sword Flame and the Fire Rod.

2 - When you first enter, you will see your Wind Magic boosted 50 points. This effect is only true while you are in the Palace Of Winds. It goes away when you leave. Wind Magic is in the Far North and to the East and gives you 20 more points and Wind Cutter. The Wind Necklace is located in the North and West and adds 20 more points to Wind Magic. With the 3 points you got from the Wind Crystal Airon gave you, you should be at 93 points power MINIMUM by the time you get both Wind Magic and the Necklace.

3 - The main creatures you will find are the Crooked Demons. They hit for a lot of damage and also cast Wind Cutter. Their greatest weakness is actually Wind Magic. My favorite way to deal with this level is to light all the torches but not kill any Crooked Demons, get Wind Magic and the Wind Necklace, then go hunting demons. One shot from a Wind Cutter will slice one in half nicely, and if you try, you can get 2 in one shot. I once got VERY lucky and tagged 3 in one shot. Not bad for a 3 point spell!

4 - You also get the Fu-Jin Boots in the South West area. These boots allow fast recovery of Strength and Magic power after running or any action. These will quickly become your favorite boots.

5 - You will also encounter 3 types of Fire throwing creatures. If you want to be tricky, you might be able to get some to light the torches for you. They are Salamanders (target you and the Fireballs travel in a line based on your movement when they were 'released'), Gables (on the walls, their Fireballs head in a straight line period), and Virulents (wall huggers with 'spikes', they shoot the spell FireStorm which tracks you and follows after you). The Gables and Virulents can have their firespewing ability negated by simply standing against the wall they are attached to. They tend to target in a cone shaped area with their mouth as the small end of the cone. They are both weak against stabbing (pointed) weapons like the Bow and Rapier.

The Palace Of Winds Walkthrough

Once you have at least 1 point of Wind Magic, you can enter the Palace. Look at the map. To run straight up the middle North is possible but likely a suicide run once you get near the Gable and Virulent areas. They sense you from afar. Your best bet is to use the Flame sword to hit the Wind Torches to light them and not attack the Crooked Demons until you go treasure hunting later. THEN you can easily exterminate them. You can use Fireball if you wish. Kill off the Salamanders you will encounter while lighting the lower torches (lower meaning the ones closer to the South).

All the treasure chests are sealed until you light the Torches. I recommend getting one of the 2 Verdite Crystals ASAP since having 1 point of power in each magic makes it possible for each magic to gain an additional point whenever you level up. You may go up 2 to 3 levels while in the Palace so the sooner you get one of these Crystals, the better for your Magic Power.

Collect everything, kill everything, and leave.
